An Affidavit is a sworn or insisted proclamation made before a notary public or any legal public official who has the jurisdiction to supervise oaths. The notary must manage an oath or affirmation to the signer, witness the signing on the required documents, and approve the document with an official signature and seal.

The Notary must also complete a notary certificate called jurat, which is added to an affidavit to document when, where, and before whom the sworn or affirmed statement was made.

Affidavits are regularly utilized when a witness who has personal awareness pertinent to an ongoing legal case cannot come to court to affirm.

Steps to Notarize an Affidavit
